Port Welshpool Planning for Tourism Growth

Meinhardt Planning is part of the Water Technology and Essential Economics team appointed to develop the Port Welshpool Marine Precinct Plan.

The Plan will function as a strategic document for guiding the development and enhancement of the Marine Precinct. It will be one of four key strategies within the South Gippsland Shire to increase visitation and tourism capture, as well as local amenity and boating opportunities.

The project is being undertaken at an opportune time, as boat registration data indicates that demand has increased by some 25% in Gippsland between 2003 and 2012.

Port Welshpool provides an exceptional opportunity to cater for this demand, as it is the only natural deep sea port between Western Port Bay and Paynesville/Lakes Entrance.

Meinhardt will coordinate key planning tasks and engagement activities, with a view to developing a robust framework and implementation strategy for Council, in collaboration with key stakeholders.
