Senior Civil Designer

About the Role
Meinhardt is seeking the services of an experienced Senior Draftsperson to join our Civil team. This role will focus on providing drafting and documentation support to the Civil team. Meinhardt Civil work in a number of specialist civil engineering areas including:
-Greenfields land development
-Urban renewal/infill
-Infrastructure master planning
-Sports and recreation and golf course engineering
-Roads projects
-Aviation projects

Key Responsibilities
-Become thoroughly familiar with codes, standards and legislative requirement and delivery of successful technical solutions.
-Assist in the preparation of documentation for project works using standard drafting procedures, practices and undertake basic structural designs, and drafting using computer-aided design equipment and software.
-Provide technical and administrative support to the manager and/or Project Leader by way of performing engineering calculations, reports, discipline tender, and construction documentation in accordance with Meinhardt standards, building codes, and legislative requirements.
-Provide timely and accurate expertise and advice on matters relating to engineering elements of relevant standards and acts and provide best value solutions to the team.
-Undertake appraisal of engineering designs, and the correctness of certification documents lodged in connection with building applications while following established procedures and documentation standards.
-Undertake project phases, ensuring understanding of assignments including special requirements and schedule for completion while ensuring projects are delivered on time, are of high quality, and within budget.
-Liaise with engineers, project teams, authorities, and clients (where applicable) and assist in maintaining client relationships while ensuring that attendance at resource meetings, and regular feedback/project status updates to Project Leaders.
-Provide technical and internal client service excellence whilst ensuring client objectives and deadlines are met.
-Where acting as a Project Leader, monitor and report on team performance against agreed timelines, fees, and budgets.
-Prepare project reporting and ensure projects meet agreed timelines and fees/budgets and input into project reports is satisfactorily completed within timelines set.
-Plan and conduct discipline-specific professional engineering work, including writing specifications, general design work, and documentation production in coordination with other disciplines, with limited supervision.
-Assist the Project Leader on selected projects, ensuring that expectations are met, and the Project Leader is kept informed of the progress.
-Take courses of action necessary to expedite the successful accomplishment of assigned tasks and make responsible decisions on technical matters assigned while ensuring project deliverables and expectations are met.
-Provide project updates to inform client of project status to ensure positive client feedback and repeat business.
-Assist with the preparation and coordination of tender submissions, proposals, and similar consulting proposals in accordance with Meinhardt’s quality standards and are submitted on time.
-Assisting the team to complete projects on time and on budget.

Skills & Experience
-At least five years drafting experience in a variety of civil projects from roads, land development, airports, sport and recreation;
-Proven industry experience in the various aspects of engineering design with emphasis on successful delivery of discipline projects, including identifying project risks, problem solving, communicating issues, and delivering solutions.
-Knowledge and understanding of and ability to apply sustainable and cost-effective principles and solutions.
-Strong data analysis, interpretation, and data presentation skills.
-Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the preparation of technical reports.
-Technical knowledge and experience in the following areas:
1. 12D;
2. AutoCAD;
3. AutoTurn; and
-Civil engineering design experience in Roads, subdivisions, or Aviation.
-Excellent team communication skills (written and verbal) and high level interpersonal skills.
-Ability to manage own time and priorities and to assist the rest of the team to meet project objectives in a deadline driven work environment.
-Understanding and application of principles and practices employed in a quality engineering consultancy practice.
-Knowledge and understanding of documentation and current issues related to own and other disciplines, including external sub-consultants.
-Basic accounting and budgeting skills and ability to monitor project budgets.
-Intermediate computer literacy skills with various software applications including Microsoft Office and discipline specific industry standard software tools.
-Ability to work both within a team environment and with minimal supervision.
