Apollo Bay Harbour Precinct Master Plan

Location: Apollo Bay, Victoria

Country: Australia

Client: Colac Otway Shire Council

Services Provided: Planning, Landscape Architecture / Urban Design

The town of Apollo Bay is a popular tourist destination located approximately 150 kilometres south west of Melbourne on the Great Ocean Road. The Harbour is a major regional facility providing one of only three safe harbours on the west Victorian coast. This project aimed to build on the town’s tourism potential and encouraged increased visitation and length of stay.

The Harbour Precinct forms an important part of Apollo Bay’s history and existing character and consequently, has been the focus of numerous studies over the years.

We were re-engaged by Colac Otway Shire in 2013 to prepare a comprehensive updated master plan for the development of a unique tourist and community precinct focusing on the harbour and adjoining public land, following an earlier draft master plan prepared by us (2007 – 2009)

Key features of the plan include new public access to the water’s edge, small commercial and community facilities to take advantage of the superb views and setting, upgraded marine infrastructure including boat ramps, trailer parking, harbour works yard, and improved parking and road networks.
